Wehad another fantastic installation last week!  One of our existing clients, Mr. Davis, had us install a new 42 inch Panasonic Viera in the room his grandkids use.

The TV that was in the room was an old Sony XBR tube TV.  I believe it was in the 36 inch range.  Anybody that has had to move an XBR know that they are incredibly heavy!  At any rate, the Sony was being used for PS2 games and some small hand-held arcade games and had no CATV connection.   We quickly took care of that!

This is what we had to work with:

The doors led into unfinished space that contained HVAC equipment and electrical panels.  As you can imagine, this made our installation quite easy.

Since we were not adding any supporting equipment (DVD, Converter box, Surround receiver)  all we really had to do was add an electrical outlet and a coaxial wire from the CATV distribution panel.

First order of business was find some framing that we could use to bolt down the mount.

Next, we planned our electrical outlet wiring and CATV cable.  The recepticle we used behind the TV is a standard wall clock style with a recessed outlet. The cable jack was a single plate.  (Up to this point we are about 45 minutes into the installation)

We had instructions from Mr. Davis to make sure the TV wasn't too high for his grandkids to view since they would typically be sitting on the floor playing their games.  We put the bottom of the TV at about 40 inches off the floor.

Finally we got to the point where our power was in (remember: "lock out/tag out"!), our CATV feed was done, and the mount was bolted to the wall. Our last task before hanging the TV was a little housekeeping.

All that was left was to hang the TV, plug in the respective power, CATV, and arcade games!

All in all, I think it was flawless.  We took the time to rename the inputs that the games were using, and had the built-in tuner memorize all analog as well as digital channels.  And, to make access to HD channels simple, we programmed them to the favorite button on the remote!
