Our projects often require many different types of details and therefore requires many different types of skills. Case in point: VGA and Ethernet jacks in the edge of a conference room table...
We have a client in the Decatur area that consults with clients in a conference room using a large Panasonic plasma TV. We were asked to give them the ability to show what was on a laptop on the conference room table on the Panasonic TV. At the same time, our Client needed the ability to gain access to their network and/or the Internet. Now, not having any connectivity at the conference table for either of those technologies (VGA/Network), our work was cut out for us.
After some careful thought, the answer was simple: a custom faceplate with 2 VGA inputs and a single Network jack.
We accomplished this through the tools available at LibertyCable.com. The actually have a feature called PanelCrafters with a utility called WebBlox where you can design your own custom faceplate. And that is exactly what we did.
The reason we added 2 VGA inputs is because our client wanted to be able to have two different laptops on the conference table and view them independently on the flat panel TV we installed.
In order to keep everything neat and tidy, we had to install all our supporting equipment underneath the table. Below is a list of the devices we used to transmit the VGA signals to the Panasonic TV:
- Gefen VGA Extender over CAT5e (we used 2, one for each VGA input)
- A VGA distribution device with auto-sensing capabilities
- Netgear 8 port switch
- 2 VGA, 1 CAT5e patch cable (for each of 5 locations at the table)
- Power strips
Finally, as an added feature, we connected the satellite TV box in their break room to the TV, with audio, so they could keep up with important news and financial programming.
Other devices we used to compliment the project included a Sherwood AV receiver, Xantech Infrared distribution kit, NXG Pro in-Ceiling speakers, and an MX-700 Universal remote to control everything.
Here's how everything turned out:
